2nd Ward

On November 8, 2005, Virginia M. Cross was elected to City Council after twenty years of community service. She has devoted her time to various Citizen Advisory Boards and Committees. Councilwoman Cross served as the Chair of the East Orange Board of Police Commissioners before it was replaced by the Police Advisory Board serving as the Board President prior to being sworn in as a member of City Council. Councilwoman Cross is a member of the Concerned Citizens to Rebuild East Orange, the Mayor’s Senior Volunteer Corps, the Mayor’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategic Committee and the Mayor’s Leadership Committee. She has been a member of the East Orange Democratic Municipal County Committee for over twenty years and is currently the Chair of the Second Ward Democratic County Committee.

Councilwoman Cross attended Morgan State University and the Peter Cortez School of Business. She recently retired from the Interracial Council of Business Development in New York. She also worked for the New York State Narcotic Addiction Control Commission.
