On January 1, 2002, Joyce C. Goore began her first term as a member of the East Orange City Council and on November 8, 2005 was re-elected to another four year term. At various times during her tenure she has chaired the Business Development and Zoning, Planning, Grants, Employment and Training, and the Law and Legislation Committees.
Councilwoman Goore received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Upsala College. For fifteen years, she was an Assistant to Dr. Henry H. Kessler, founder of the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation and retired from the East Orange Board of Education.
Prior to being elected, Councilwoman Goore served the community in a variety of roles. She was President of the East Orange Board of Police Commissioners, a Commissioner of the East Orange Golf Course, Vice-Chair of the Golf Course’s Advisory Board, President of the East Orange League of Women Voters, Treasurer of the Essex County Chapter of the New Jersey Association for Children with Learning Disabilities, a member of the Citizens Advisory Committee to the Board of Education, a Board Member of the East Orange Community Day Nursery and founder of the East Orange Special Education Parent Teacher Association. She was a Graduate Fellow of the Neighborhood Leadership Initiative Community Foundation of New Jersey and an Essex County Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children.
Since joining City Council, Councilwoman Goore has established the East Orange First Ward Action Committee for Empowerment and Services (A.C.E.S.) and chairs the Neighborhood Community Center at Sojourner Truth School Advisory Board.
