Our Mission
Our Mission is to provide effective and professional assistance to
other City departments, The East Orange School District, Hospitals and
private sector by aiding them in their planning and preparation for
emergencies and by responding to incidents, consistent with the policies
of the City of East Orange, Essex County Office of Emergency Management
and the New Jersey State Police Office of Emergency Management.
The East Orange Office of Emergency Management coordinates the
plans and operations of the various components of the emergency
operations plan; police, fire, public health, emergency medical service,
public works, public information, emergency warning system, C.E.R.T.
volunteers and other groups who assist during emergencies.
O.E.M. also responds to emergencies, supports community events,
investigates complaints and provides technical assistance and support to
agencies and citizens. We host C.P.R., Basic First Aid, Response to
Terrorism and Incident Management classes for public workers and
community volunteers.
East Orange O.E.M. has an active Community Emergency Response Team and
is actively seeking volunteers.
The Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) is comprised of
local government elected officials, department heads and representatives
of the school system, East Orange General Hospital,
the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army and various private
companies. The LEPC meets several times a year and as
needed in case of emergencies.
Staff
The
staffing for the East Orange Office of Emergency Management consists of
a Coordinator, Assistant Coordinator, clerical personnel and a significant number of volunteers.
