Telephone: 973-266-5429 April 2009 Women, Infants and Children’s Nutrition Program (W IC) - Monday –Friday 8:30am -4:30 pm. Evening hours are available Monday and Wednesdays. Checks/vouchers for nutritious foods and infant formula, breastfeeding and nutritional counseling provided to enrollees of the program. The Nutritionists conduct individualized counseling with program parents. Every month a specific topic concerning nutrition is taught to parents concerning the healthy development of the child and family receiving nutritional supplementation by the staff dietician. The Nutritionists themes for teaching this month are “Reading Food Labels” “Fast Foods” and “Picky Eaters”. Families will observe models and be given “take home” learning tools for each topic. Call for information or to determine eligibility at 973-395-8960 Ms. Monica Coombs, Registered Dietician, WIC Coordinator Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) - Providing children with nutritious meals who attend daycares, preschools and after-school programs throughout East Orange, Orange, West Orange, South Orange, Maplewood, Irvington, Newark, Bloomfield, Belleville, Montclair ). The meal menus are approved by the State of New Jersey Department of Agriculture. To become a program participant please call. Mandatory training sessions are now being conducted by this division, for Site Directors Food Program Monitors, Site Supervisors Food Handlers for the “Summer Food Program” and staff. This division conducts health inspections and enforces mandated health codes, tobacco and nuisance investigations, as well as citation of relevant violations. They are also responsible for monitoring animal control regulations and violations, rodent control projects and seasonal activities which include pool inspections (June to September), rabies clinics (June and September ). Vital Statistics- Birth, death and marriage certificates and licenses Monday –Friday 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. A special note from the Registrar: “Marriage, civil union and domestic partnership applications are being processed according to the rule change that either applicant can be a resident of the city of East Orange. The current application fee is $28.00. A pamphlet entitled “Entering into a Marriage or Civil Union in New Jersey “is available in the Registrar’s office. Inquiries and information may be directed to; Ms. Cynthia Moore, Certified Municipal Registrar, at 973-266-5450. Nursing- Monday – Friday, 8:30 pm to 4:30 pm. The following clinical services are available to East Orange residents; Child Health Conferences (Well Baby Clinic) Immunizations/Sexually Transmitted Disease, Tuberculosis and Senior Health. Monday –Friday, 8:30 am- 4:30 pm. Call for the current schedule. Promotion of community “breast and prostate health “continues with community outreach and screenings ” that are conducted in collaboration with the S.A.V. E. Program of University of Medicine and Dentistry Hospital of New Jersey (UMDNJ). Mammograms are performed by appointment, at no cost to the participant (pre-registration required). The next Mammogram screening date is May 21, 2009 Call for an appointment. Free prostate screening for men is available. The next prostate clinic is tentatively scheduled for June 18, 2009, call for qualifying information or an appointment. Diabetes and blood pressure screenings are available, call for an appointment or walk-in. Dental- Monday –Friday; 8:30am- 4:30 pm. Clinical dental services are available to children of East Orange resident’s kindergarten to eighteen years of age. Outreach, education and screenings of school-aged children are conducted in city schools. This division participates in community outreach/education events as scheduled. Counseling and testing is available to the public at large. Clinics are held in East Orange, Orange and West Orange. The Annual HIV Testing day is in June. Lead Poisoning – Nursing case management and environmental inspections for children/families affected by lead poisoning. Children aged 1-6 years, may be screened for lead poisoning, at no cost, every Tuesday in January, in the Child Health Conference Clinic located in the basement. Education / Outreach sessions available upon request. This month open screening will be offered at the East Orange School Enrollment Center, located at Church of the Crossroads, 10 S. Oraton Parkway. Home inspections and related consultations are performed according to local state and federal protocols. Weights and Measures- Measuring, testing and inspecting consumer products, services and trades (i.e. Grocery stores, gas stations etc.), based on weights and measures.
