The City of East Orange "Hollywood" Walk of Fame

to be Unveiled at Hollywood Cinema on May 16th

East Orange, NJ (April 27, 2007) – A Walk of Fame honoring the lives and achievements of outstanding performing artists who lived in East Orange will be unveiled at a public ceremony on Wednesday, May 16th, 6:00 PM, at the Hollywood Cinema, 636 Central Avenue, East Orange, New Jersey.

In addition, at 4:30 PM, an awards ceremony will be held inside the Hollywood Cinema, at which time, the City of East Orange will bestow the Walk of Fame Star Award on the honorees.

This year’s honorees are: John Amos, Jr., an award winning television actor best known for his role as James Evans in the 1970s sitcom, Good Times; Wyclef Jean, a multi-talented hip-hop and  reggae artist/producer/writer who, before launching a successful solo career, was a member of the famed hip hop trio The Fugees; Barbara Curry Montgomery, best known for her role as Casseita Heterrink on the sitcom, Amen; Gail Fisher, who portrayed Peggy Fair, the always pleasant and efficient secretary on the hit television show Mannix; Gwen Guthrie, perhaps best know for her hit single “Aint Nothin’ Goin’ on But the Rent;” and Walter ‘Gil’ Fuller, a big band jazz composer who collaborated with notable jazz greats Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, Gil Evans and many more.

The Walk of Fame honorees have been selected based on exceptional excellence and achievement in the performing arts and deserve special recognition for their hard work and determination.

The East Orange Hollywood Walk of Fame is more than a celebration of great artistic work by performers past and present, it is a constant reminder for people to have hopes and dreams, work hard to fulfill them, and remember that the City of East Orange is a place where dreams do come true.

John Amos, Jr., Wyclef Jean, and Barbara Curry Montgomery have indicated that they plan to attend the unveiling and provide brief remarks from a podium erected outside the Hollywood Cinema.  Family members will attend and accept awards on behalf of Gail Fisher, Gwen Guthrie and Walter ‘Gil’ Fuller.
