The East Orange Department of Public Works is comprised of 60 workers ready to serve you. Our headquarters is located on the 3rd floor of City Hall, and is open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Our operating divisions and equipment are housed at the Central City Garage, 333 Glenwood Avenue and the Municipal Yard at 133 Midland Avenue, which is also our Recycling Center.
All employees of the Public Works Department are cross-trained and are capable of functioning as a team. A team that is prepared to deliver essential services on a 24-hour basis, when necessary.

Provides clerical support to all Divisions. Issues permits to public for sidewalk construction, responds to telephone inquiries from residents.

Designs and supervises Public Works construction projects such as road reconstruction. Maintains street numbering system and tax maps.

Supervises the collection of recyclable items. Monitors solid waste, leaf and bulky trash removal. Operates the Recycling Center at 133 Midland Ave.

Maintains City motor vehicles.

The City of East Orange has more than 17,000 trees lining its streets. The Shade Tree Division is responsible for maintaining our shade trees. top of page
Street Drains & Traffic Maintenance Div 333 Glenwood Avenue (973) 266-8842
The Street Division maintains and repairs 84 miles of roadway. Other vital services provided by this division include: snow and ice removal, leaf removal, street sweeping, cleaning, road surface repairs and inspection of sidewalks. Also the upkeep of the City's storm drains, catch basin cleaning and maintaining the Second River. Installs and repairs all traffic lights. Paints all line markings on roadways, fabricates and repairs all posted street name and instructional signs.
Clean & Green Center Small Tools Library 214 Elmwood Avenue (973) 266-1022
Assists groups in anti-litter, clean-up, and beautification projects. Provides tools and equipment for loan to residents for small home improvement and maintenance projects.
