The Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs is responsible for the development and implementation of recreational and cultural activities and programs throughout the city, aimed at meeting the needs of the community.  The department operates out of the Fellowship Civic Center and offers a comprehensive recreation program including both seasonal and annual events.  It operates a variety of ongoing, year-round programs and activities including organized sports teams for youth, cultural clubs, dance troupes and cheerleading squads.  The department also operates the 18 hole East Orange Golf Course located in Short Hills.  It will maintain liaison with citizen groups interested in participating in programs and activities promulgated by the department and will ascertain the cultural needs of the city and implement programs to meet them.  Programs are developed to enhance ethnic, racial, historic and social traditions germane to the citizens of East Orange.
