Dirty Water Complaints in South Orange
The East Orange Water Commission received several calls from South Orange Residents regarding dirty/cloudy water on Monday, August 8, 2011. Upon further investigation, we determined that a contractor performing milling and paving work on the Seton Hall Campus was utilizing a fire hydrant for this purpose. This utilization cause a great deal of sediment to be present in the water. As a result, residents in this area experienced dirty/cloudy water. The East Orange Water Commission addressed the hydrant use with the contractor and performed some additional flushing to remove the sediment and residue from the transmission lines.
The sediment in the water causes no health concerns and there is no need to boil water. However, if you are still experiencing dirty/cloudy water, may want to refrain from washing clothes for the sediment may stain your clothing. Residents should open the COLD water faucets on the lowest floor of the house and let the water run until it clears. If the condition persists, please call customer service at (973) 266-8869.
