AT THE

2008 MOJA YOUTH ARTS FESTIVAL

East Orange, New Jersey.....Mark your calendars for the, 2008 Moja Youth Arts Festival, June 14, 2008, 11:00am until 5:00pm, in Elmwood Park, East Orange, New Jersey.

The Arts are Alive and Well in the City of East Orange, thanks to the graciousness of the Mayor’s Office, the East Orange City Council and Corporate Sponsors.  Their repeated support of the Youth 2000 Initiative and galleryEastOrange, a component of the Youth Works/Arts Works Program, allows the community to see results of their tax dollars at work - tax dollars that help our youth of today become East Orange’s leaders of tomorrow.

At the Fourth Annual Moja Youth Arts Festival, youth and children in the East Orange school district, along with youth from other school districts throughout Essex and Union Counties, will be demonstrating their talents of song, dance, acting and artistic paintings on June 14^th, 2008, in Elmwood Park, East Orange, New Jersey, from 11:00am until 5:00pm.

Over 400 youth will perform instrumental, chorus, dance and artistic interpretation on the stage at the Festival, including the world renowned Universal African Dance & Drum Ensemble of Camden, New Jersey.  The Universal African Dance & Drum Ensemble choreographers present a powerful, sensational and electrifying performance.  The Ensemble has performed at many prestigious venues including; The United Nations, the famous UniverSoul Circus, the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and others.  They are definitely not to be missed!!!! 

The highlight of this year’s festival will be a Hot Air Balloon.  If you have never experienced the thrill of watching a Hot Air Balloon majestically set on the green grass of Elmwood Park with its multitude of colors, you are in for a treat.  Stop by the festival to see the Hot Air Balloon tethered in Elmwood Park.

Also, performing in this year’s Festival is “Miss Nana” who has toured with Little Bow Wow.  Miss Nana will be starring in her first movie role as D.J. Jock, “Wendy Williams”.  Nana who is 16 years of age, will play Williams as a teen in a movie based on William’s best selling memoir. 

Another super talented group we’re sure you’ll enjoy is “YungFellaz” of Roselle, New Jersey.  Three young guys with the attitude, charisma and talent far beyond their time, make up the young pop urban trio, which performs a variety of musical styles from from classical to jazz.

New to the festival this year is "Dejahvue" of Brooklyn, New York.  More than just a pretty package, Dejahvue is a certified triple threat that can rap, sing and dance.  Her confident lyrics and sassy delivery is sure to capture and keep your attention.

Dancers, poets, actors, and other musicians will entertain the community on the outdoor stage in Elmwood Park.  The Orange High School, Drama Department, will entertain us with a number from their spring musical “Fame”.  Patrick Healy Middle School, will thrill the crowd with a musical selection.  The Unity Dance Group will be showing their youths’ talent with an “African Dance Routine”, and Fourth Avenue School will once again mesmerize the festival goers with their unique dance routines of cultural fascination. 

Hip Hop, Afro-Haitian and African dancing exact the cultural diversity of our schools, and it is all being presented with you in mind, for an outrageous day of culture, family, friends, you and our YOUTH!!
