Bowser, the East Orange City Council, local students and residents will be joined by musician and community activist Wyclef Jean (and/or his wife Claudinette) to announce a City-wide effort to assist the victims of earthquake ravaged Haiti. On Saturday, March 6th and Sunday, March 7th from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM, the City of East Orange will host a “Donation Marathon For Haiti” at City Hall. For twelve hours each day, the municipal building will serve as a staging area for the collection of items and funds that will be turned over to the Yèle Haiti Foundation for immediate shipment to Haiti. The Foundation, founded by Mr. Jean, was chosen because of its proven record of accomplishment in Haiti, providing humanitarian aid directly to the people. The tragic aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti will resonate for years to come and representatives from the Yèle Haiti Foundation have said basic household and personal items will go a long way in bringing a sense of normalcy back to the lives of the residents of Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas. Students from several local schools will kick off the campaign by dropping off their donations during the announcement.
