City Officials Help "Bag Hunger"
September 23, 2009

EAST ORANGE…September 23 , 2009---In recognition of September as National Hunger Acton Month, City officials gathered at the Brick Church Plaza Shop Rite to “help bag hunger.” This effort was part of a national initiative where several organizations and businesses raised awareness and resources to help fight hunger within local communities.

East Orange Council members Virginia Cross, William Holt, Sharon Fields, Ted Green and Quilla Talmadge bagged groceries as part of Shop Rite’s “Partners In Caring Day.” The effort, along with donations collected by cashiers for the Shop Rite Partners in Caring Fund will help fill the shelves at local community food banks.

This year, Shop Rite Partners In Caring is celebrating its 10th Anniversary, and has collected over $20 million in hunger relief to agencies throughout New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland.
