DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS SOLID WASTE & RECYCLING CLEAN & GREEN ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTER Annual Citywide Fall Clean Up & 2009 Golden Broom Awards EAST ORANGE--- The East Orange Citywide Clean Up Green Up Day is being co-sponsored by the New Jersey Clean Communities Council. This year’s activities include a Composting Event, an Energy Saving Lighting Sale, and the 2009 Golden Broom Awards. As part of this annual initiative, backyard composting bins or Earth Machines will be available to East Orange residents. The Earth Machine will turn all your vegetative kitchen scraps, coffee grinds, tea bags, grass clippings, brown leaves and dead garden plants into compost. This compost can be used in your vegetable and flower gardens. The Earth Machine has a screw-on lid and trap door for extracting your compost. It comes with a how-to compost booklet, and free kitchen scrap bucket. The retail value of this green machine is $100.00, however, due to a special promotion, the City of East Orange DPW Clean & Green Environmental Education Center is offering residents the opportunity to purchase the Earth Machine compost bin for only $30.00! You must pre-register to reserve the Earth Machine. Checks or money orders will be accepted at the time of pick up. CASH WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. The
compost bins will be available at 44 City Hall Plaza, East
Orange, NJ from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday,
October 10, 2009. To pre-register and reserve your Earth
Machine, please call the DPW Clean and Green Environmental

for orders is Monday, October 5, 2009. The Clean Up Green Up Day will also host an Energy Saving Lighting Sale, selling lighting and lamps at reduced prices. The main purpose of Clean Up Green Up Day is to encourage residents to participate with East Orange Environmental Ambassador Teams and compete for the Golden Broom Awards, where organizations will be recognized for their contribution Environmental Ambassador Teams will be provided with cleanup supplies, gardening, tools, bags, gloves and flowering plants and bulbs for groups with special projects. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BE REGISTERED FOR THIS EVENT. The day’s proposed schedule will be as follows:
