Game Stop® Opens in East Orange EAST ORANGE…A brand new business has opened in East Orange. Game Stop®, a franchise selling gaming systems, video games and accessories for gamers of all ages and levels, officially announced it is open for business with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, May 15, 2009. The store is located in the Brick Church Shopping Plaza across from Shop Rite, on the corner of Halsted Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard. Mayor Robert L. Bowser, members of City Council, City officials and other invited guests were present to mark the continued economic growth that is occurring around the City, as is represented by this new opening. “A lot of work went on behind the scenes to make this opening possible,” said Director of Policy Planning and Development Ernest Freeman. His department, along with the City’s Ombudsman Troy Webster, was directly involved through the entire process to secure the success of this project, also working closely with the store’s manager Jerry Willis to make the opening possible. “I know that businesses can be hesitant to open in urban areas, but Game Stop® was willing to commit to coming to East Orange. We have already experienced a great soft opening and expect this store to be a one of our most economically viable locations,” said Willis. The enthusiasm toward the new Game Stop® store was echoed by the public, as a group of boys came into the store after the ribbon was cut. Exclaims of “I haven’t seen this game anywhere else,” to “Look at the price they’re selling this stuff” could be heard as they browsed. This project should assist
in the revitalization of the Brick Church Shopping Plaza, as well as usher
in a proposed beautification project for the entire shopping area and
support the continued economic growth in East Orange.
