The City of East Orange Continues “Clean Team” Initiative

EAST ORANGE ~ The City of East Orange in collaboration with the Department of Public Works has been engaged in a 3-Phase Project called “Clean Team” in an effort to maintain the cleanliness of City streets. These efforts are possible through funding from the City’s Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) Program with assistance from the Urban Enterprise Zone Assistance Fund.

The project is part of a public improvement plan of the enterprise zone, and will help increase municipal services within the enterprise zone. This undertaking supports the unprecedented redevelopment currently underway in the City. The focused areas include Central Avenue, M.L.K. Boulevard, Park Avenue, Springdale Avenue, Fourth Avenue, Evergreen and Harrison Streets.

The initial stages of this project were to purchase two new sidewalk sweepers and hire 8 full-time workers. Two employees will operate the sidewalk sweepers, and six individuals will assist in litter collection. All employees will report directly to the Department of Public Works.

The last stage was to acquire 200 new public receptacles with both the UEZ and the City of East Orange logos. This will further promote the City’s goals to revitalize the existing downtown business districts, continue attracting new businesses and shoppers, and strengthen the City’s UEZ areas.
