East Orange Sponsors National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day Program
EAST ORANGE – In recognition of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on Thursday, February 7th, the City of East Orange is sponsoring a program in conjunction with both the Township of Irvington and the City Township of Orange. The program will be held at East Orange City Hall in the City Council Chambers at 5:30 P.M.
The program will consist of displays of information from both Planned Parenthood of Metro Essex and the City’s Department of Health and Human Services. The effort is being coordinated by Fourth Ward Councilwoman Sharon Fields, Chairperson of the City’s Health and Education Committee in collaboration with the African-American Office of Gay Concerns. Executive Director Mr. Gary P. Wright will facilitate the event.
The program will consist of songs, a demonstration presentation, and guest speaker Brenda Boone, Past Director of “Positively Speaking” and formerly an HIV counselor at Isaiah House.
Also expected are Orange City Council President Lisa Perkins, Irvington Mayor Wayne Smith, and East Orange Mayor Robert L. Bowser, as well as East Orange Health Officer Rochelle Evans and East Orange General Hospital Community Outreach Coordinator Theresa Coombs.
